Electron energy loss and X-ray photoelectron spectra have been measure
d to support experimentally the theoretical electronic band structure
calculated for NbSe3. Our new interest is particularly addressed to de
termine the distribution of the five Nb4dz2 orbitals in the conduction
band by means of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). The spectr
a obtained agree well with the density-of-states (DOS) calculated by D
.W. Bullet and others. Plasmons and other interband transitions are al
so present in the spectra.
