Tricarbonyl(1,2,3,4,5-pentamethyl)chromium(0) (II) is obtained from pe
ntamethylpyrrole and tetracarbonyl(norbornadiene)chromium(0) in good y
ield. The molecular geometry of II calculated from X-ray data indicate
s pentamethylpyrrole to be a stronger donor ligand on comparison with
N-methylpyrrole in tricarbonyl(N-methylpyrrole)chromium(0) (I). This r
esult is confirmed by an AM1 calculation of N-methylpyrrole and pentam
ethylpyrrole.
