One of the main problems in acoustic emission analysis is the estimati
on of the time of occurrence and amplitude of bursts. Different method
s were used, some of them based on a dynamic model of the signal and K
alman filtering techniques as estimators, other based on digital proce
ssing techniques as windowed Fourier transform or wavelet transforms.
A new model of acoustic emission signals and an algorithm for estimati
ng but-st occurrence are described. The method is extended to the more
general case where the bursts present more than one fundamental frequ
ency. Results obtained are shown.
