In an experiment with 95 mature female pigs the concentrations of 17-b
eta-estradiol and progesterone were analysed in follicular fluid, musc
le and fat dependent on the backfat-thickness and the muscle-fat relat
ionship. After slaughtering samples of follicular fluid, Musculus glut
aeus medius and backfat were taken and analysed by radioimmunoassay (R
IA). Female pigs with more fat in her body have a higher concentration
of 17-beta-estradiol in follicular fluid and in fat. Especially in pr
ooestrous/oestrous a positive correlation is found between the backfat
-thickness or muscle-fat relationship and the concentration of 17-beta
-estradiol in follicular fluid. The progesterone concentrations in bac
kfat and in musculus glutaeus medius are not dependent on the body com
position. Female pigs with more fat have an increasing progesterone co
ncentration in follicular fluid during prooestrous/oestrous.
