Potentiostatic studies, conducted in the Tafel region in 5% sodium chl
oride solution, on nn experimental white cast iron, characterized the
suitability of various microstructures in resisting corrosion. The stu
dy showed that in most instances single-step polarization curves indic
ated corrosion was a single process. In some instances, two-step polar
ization curves indicated corrosion occurred in two stages. Factors lea
ding to these differences are identified and explained.
