Abstract
Listeria spp were isolated from faeces samples from 17 (5.7%) of 300 d ogs examined. Four isolates were identified as L. monocytogenes, three were serovar 1/2b and one serovar 4ab, 12 isolates were L. innocua, o ne serovar 6a and eleven serovar 6b, and one isolate was L. welshimeri , serovar 4b. L. monocytogenes, serovar 4b was isolated from 1 of 275 faeces samples from cats. The results indicate that dogs and cats are not important in the epidemiology of listeriosis in man.
