Optimality criteria are derived and used to maximize a set of frequenc
ies for a structure of given weight. The criteria include both membran
e and bending effects and nonlinear relations between the stiffness an
d mass matrices. An error norm is proposed and used to determine the v
alues of design variables and Lagrange multipliers at optimum. Some de
tails of the accompanying iterative procedure are discussed and the nu
merical examples of simple test structures are presented.
