NEW OPTICAL BRIGHTENING AGENTS FOR PAPER

The effect of some new triazine-stilbene optical brightening agents on the increase of the degree of whiteness of the paper has been investi gated. It is established that, after application of the brightening ag ents, the whiteness is increased with about 10%. When applied in the p resence of some epichlorhydrin derivatives, the degree of whiteness is additionally increased, which is probably due to the bonds created be tween the brightening agents and the polymer additive, resulting in be tter retention of the brightening agents in the paper structure.
