J. Mogensen, THE PREFRONTAL SYSTEMS OF YOUNG AND MIDDLE-AGED RATS - ACQUISITION AND RETENTION OF DELAYED ALTERNATION, Homeostasis, 34(3-4), 1993, pp. 148-153
Young adult (45 days old at the beginning of the experiment), and ,,mi
ddle- aged'' rats (320 days old at the beginning of the experiment) we
re compared in learning, retention and relearning of spatial delayed a
lternation, before and after ablation of the medial prefrontal cortex.
The tests of acquisition and preoperative as well as postoperative re
learning of the task showed no significant group differences. The olde
r rats were significantly impaired only in the preoperative and postop
erative retention tests.
