V. Barone et al., NONUNIVERSALITY OF STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS AND MEASUREMENT OF THE STRANGESEA DENSITY, Physics letters. Section B, 317(3), 1993, pp. 433-436
We show that there is no real conflict between the two determinations
of the strange sea density from the opposite-sign dimuon production an
d from the difference of the F2 structure functions measured in neutri
no and muon deep inelastic scattering. Once non-universal sea parton d
ensities are introduced, which take into account the effects of differ
ent mass thresholds and different longitudinal contributions, the disc
repancy is shown to disappear and both sets of data are simultaneously
well reproduced. No need for a large strange sea content of the nucle
on emerges.
