Identification of immune-mediated neuropathies is important as these d
isorders often respond to treatment. Patterns of binding of serum M (m
ononclonal) proteins and autoantibodies correlate with, and may be dia
gnostic markers for, specific polyneuropathy syndromes. There is evide
nce that some of these antibodies may play a pathogenic role in polyne
uropathy syndromes. Identification of specific immune polyneuropathy s
yndromes provides guidance regarding immunosuppressive regimens that m
ay be effective treatments.
