In recent years, studies to apply passive safety system to PWRS have b
een performed by many organizations. On the other hand, studies to imp
rove the conventional active safety systems are also being evaluated.
This article shows another approach to improve the PWR safety systems.
The Hybrid Safe System which is a combination of a passive safety sys
tem and an active safety system has a possibility to improve both reli
ability an plant economy. In this article, a selection of elemental te
chnologies to construct the whole-system are discussed. Then, operatio
nal signal and reactor cooling after the grace period are discussed.
