Abstract
Structure sensitive and insensitive reactions with nonuniformly reacti ve adsorbates are discussed in terms of the surface electronic gas mod el using the Polanyi parameter (alpha). For the liquid-phase hydrogena tion it was demonstrated, that the reaction is structure insensitive w hen alpha is equal to unity, which in terms of the surface electronic gas model means that effective charges of adsorbed species and activat ed complexes in transition state are equal.
