Abstract
The specificity of antibody molecules has proved to be of great value for serological identification and classification of bacteria. In the research laboratory monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies have been use d extensively for comparative studies of proteins expressed by related organisms, as well as for fine mapping of epitopes on bacterial antig ens to facilitate structure-function analysis. Examples of the use of antibodies for these various applications are reviewed.
