Abstract
A quantum chemical calculation (MNDO) of the structure of the molecule and radicals of the hydrated form of glycolic aldehyde was performed. The structures of the radicals formed by cleavage of C-H bonds in the molecule at the C1 and C2 positions are compared. It was shown that t he radical at C1 is responsible for the formation of acetic acid - the end product of radiolysis of an aqueous solution of glycolic aldehyde .
