Abstract
The case for monitoring the ''health'' or condition of operational equ ipment is made, specifically for applications where safety and reliabi lity are of prime importance. The monitoring requirements of typical i nstallations are given and the reliability of the monitoring system is considered. Methods are described for improving monitoring system rel iability.
