Abstract
Two patients affected by severe Alzheimer's disease (AD) were investig ated by MRI and image-guided P-31 MRS. In one case, H-1 MRS was additi onally performed. In both cases the diagnosis of AD was confirmed, pos t mortem, by the pathologist. The spectral parameters of the P-31 MR s pectra were estimated by fitting the P-31 MR signals in the time domai n. Our P-31 MRS results suggest that it is possible to detect the memb rane catabolism, as indexed with the level of PDE resonances visible i n in vivo P-31 MRS, at least in severe AD cases. The H-1 spectrum from AD brain showed a marked decrease of NAA signal respect to choline.
