46 ejaculates of 13 stallions were investigated for the prevalence of
normal (Fig. 1) and abnormal sperm cells. In all, 1043 abnormal sperm
cells were found, the percentage distribution of them was, as follows:
proximal droplet 20.9; distal droplet 7.3; tail abnormalities 61.0; h
ead abnormalities 6.7; neck abnormalities 4.1 (Figs 2 to 11). Total sp
erm cell abnormalities varied in the ejaculates collected at different
points of time (Figs 12 and 13), except for the proximal droplet, the
presence of which was irreversible. High percentage of proximal dropl
et in all ejaculates of the stallion Lupus significantly decreased the
fertilization capacity of semen (conceptional rate 26.3 %).
