Abstract
The synthesis of a new layered double hydroxide possessing the hydrota lcite structure and having Mg2+ and V3+ ions in the layers is describe d. The structure has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction and XANES and EXAFS spectroscopies. V3+ ions occupy octahedral sites in the brucite -like layers.
