The Re(VII)complex (Bpz4)ReO3 (1) has been isolated in the reaction of
Re2O7 with KBpz4 in THF and characterized. The solid-state structure
of this complex has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The comp
lex is monomeric with an approximately octahedral arrangement of ligan
ds around the rhenium and crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C
2/c, with a = 21.070(2) angstrom, b = 14.860(1) angstrom, c = 11.588(1
) angstrom, beta = 121.70(1)degrees, V = 3087(4) angstrom3, Z = 8, R =
0.041, and R(w) = 0.047 for 227 variables and 2877 data with F(o) > 2
sigma(F(o)). The Re(V) complex (Bpz4)ReOCl2(2) with the same poly(pyra
zolyl)borate ligand has also been isolated and characterized. Compound
2 has been synthesized by reacting compound 1 with Me3SiCl and Ph3P.
For both complexes, the characterization includes laser desorption and
electron impact Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectr
ometry.
