Complexes of (1S,2S,3R)-3-hydroxycamphorsultam (Chemical Abstracts Ser
vice name ,6,7-hexahydro-3H-3a,6-methano-2,1-benzisothiazole 2,2-dioxi
de) with the transition metals Fe-(III), Cu(II), Co(II), and Re(III) h
ave been prepared and characterized by elemental microanalysis, NMR, a
nd IR, and their electrochemical properties have been studied by cycli
c voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis. The X-ray structu
re of the Copper complex [{CuCl}2(-L')2], which crystallizes in the mo
noclinic space group I2 with a = 13.9777(8), b = 7.2778(3), c = 19.891
(1) angstrom, beta = 91.96(4), Z = 4, V = 2020(2) angstrom3 (R = 0.02
7 and R(w) = 0.029), shows that it is a dimeric oxygen bridged compoun
d with a Cu...Cu distance of 2.989(4) angstrom, containing a hydrogen
bond between one oxygen of the sulfonamide group and a triethylammoniu
m ion, which is formed from triethylamine used to deprotonate the chir
al ligand.
