Abstract
Symmetry groups of waveguides with anisotropic materials are described with examples taken from common configurations in ferrite waveguides. When the symmetry group of the waveguide cross-section is known, grou p theoretical techniques can be used to determine the symmetry charact eristics of the modes. Knowledge or these symmetry properties is usefu l for the classification and numerical calculation of modes.
