Abstract
A new probe is described, in which an ultrasound receiver constructed from a piezoelectric polymer is combined with a forward-looking coaxia l optical fibre for laser-induced ultrasound. The size of the transduc er system is such that it offers in medicine both a diagnostic and the rapeutic tool, and has potential for combining the role of intra-arter ial imaging with therapy.
