Abstract
A mid-infra-red LED emitting at 3.36mum (FWHM 400nm) is used as a sour ce for evanescent wave flammable gas sensing with fluoride fibre. The system described has a detection limit for propane of 1.5%. These prel iminary data demonstrate the potential for distributed gas sensing usi ng novel LED sources.
