Fire resistant hydraulic fluids are being specified for power transmis
sion in increasing numbers of industrial processes and applications. T
he development, testing, and field application of an advanced oil-in-w
ater emulsion fire resistant hydraulic fluid is described. Results of
laboratory and field testing show that the fluid is capable of replaci
ng mineral oil in continuous casting steel plant hydraulic systems, wh
ile still using standard hydraulic components, and without the need to
downrate system operating parameters.
