Thermodynamic and structural properties of a system with a rectangular
well potential are investigated in the supercritical region using the
approximate Martynov-Sarkisov (MS) integral equation for the binary d
istribution function. It is shown that, in contrast to other approxima
tions, in particular the Percus-Yevick equation (PY) and hypernetted c
hain approximation (HNC), the MS equation describes the limits of exis
tence of the homogeneous phase.
