A finite-element method based on the scalar-wave approximation is deve
loped for the analysis of magnetooptic waveguides. 4 simple and effici
ent iterative method is proposed for solving a nonlinear eigenvalue eq
uation derived from the scalar finite-element approach. To show the va
lidity and usefulness of this method, examples are computed for magnet
ooptic rib-type and ridge-type waveguides. Subsequently, we discuss th
e waveguide structures which have larger nonreciprocal phase shift.
