AN S-SHAPED OPTICAL-FIBER LOOP RESONATOR USING A 3X3 NONPLANAR FIBER COUPLER

The first demonstration of a new S-shaped single-mode fiber loop reson ator is presented. The S-shaped fiber loop resonator is made with a no nplanar 3 x 3 fiber directional coupler and two fiber delay lines. Exp ressions for the circulating (resonant) fields and the transmitted and reflected output fields are derived. Theoretical and experimental res ults show that this fiber loop resonator may have potential applicatio ns as a spectral filter and a closely spaced two-channel wavelength di vision multi/demultiplexer.
