Abstract
We present the calculations of equilibrium thermodynamic properties of the quantum Morse chain using a variational method. By generalizing t he Morse potential to a form which allows a continuous crossover to th e completely integrable Toda chain, we systematically compare the ther modynamics of these two systems.
