A modified method of measurement of induced thermal lens parameters is
proposed. Focal lengths of a thermal lens formed in laser-pumped fors
terite crystals with (100) and (101) orientations are measured.and its
astigmatic properties established. The choice of the method and of th
e theoretical model proposed for determination of parameters of therma
l lenses induced in Mg2SiO4:Cr crystals is experimentally confirmed by
a substitution of a lens with known focal length for the forsterite s
amples and also by the results of laser experiments.
