Amplification of powerful pulses in resonance media is investigated th
eoretically with regard to the optical Stark effect and the coherent e
ffects. It has been found out that in the course of amplification a pu
lse may go through a stage of noncoherent Stark quasisoliton. This sta
ge is characterized by an approximately constant and sharply asymmetri
c pulse envelope and approximately constant pulse energy. After furthe
r amplification the Stark quasisoliton breaks up into a train of short
er pulses. At a sufficiently large distance of amplification, a true s
oliton can form in the active medium. In the general case, this solito
n differs essentially from the standard pi-pulse in media without Star
k effect.
