The complex [NaMn(pyrazinato)(N3)2(H2O)2] has been synthesized and cha
racterized by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. The inf
rared and Raman spectral results indicate that the complex contains an
N,O-bidentate pyrazinato anion, aqua ligands and asymmetric azido gro
ups. The structure of the complex features an octahedrally coordinated
manganese atom as well as six-coordinated sodium atom. Each manganese
atom, which links a bridging aqua ligand [Mn-O = 2.244(3) angstrom] a
nd three mu(1,1,3)-bridging azido ligands [Mn-N from 2.137(3) to 2.257
(3) angstrom], is chelated by a pyrazinato anion [via its ring nitroge
n atom, Mn-N = 2.297(3) angstrom, and a carboxylato oxygen atom, Mn-O
= 2.148(3) angstrom]. The sodium atom is bonded to three mu(1,1,3)-bri
dging azido ligands in a facial arrangement [Na-N from 2.415(4) to 2.5
17(4) angstrom] and three water molecules [Na-O from 2.368(3) to 2.440
(3) angstrom] in which two of them act as bridges between two sodium o
ctahedra. The manganese and sodium octahedra have a common edge via an
aqua ligand and an azido group.
