Reaction of RSeCl (R = 4-Cl-C6H4) With titanocene pentasulphide Cp2TiS
5 affords the novel RSeS5SeR as a yellow oil which is quite stable at
20-degrees-C. Using CP4'Ti2S4 (Cp' = CH3C5H4) as a sulphur transfer re
agent the reaction with RSeCl results in a mixture of (RSC)2Sn molecul
es with n = 0-10, which on heating produces even longer chains as demo
nstrated by HPLC analysis. Titanocene pentaselenide CP2TiSe5 reacts wi
th RSeCl at 4-degrees-C to give a mixture of R2Sex molecules (x = 1-7)
and Se8, the relative concentrations sharply decrease with increasing
X. Se-77 NMR and UV spectra as well as retention index data of the ne
w molecules are reported.
