An optimal control algorithm for solving dynamic, nonlinear, discrete
time, linearly constrained optimization problems based on feasible dir
ection search and the reduced gradient is applied to integrated optima
l flow control in single destination traffic networks with time-varyin
g demand flows. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the fe
asibility of the approach. The results of this work, especially concer
ning required computation time and demand flows assumptions, are relev
ant for real-time implementation of the algorithm.
