Abstract
Halogen substituted analogs of 5-(phenylthio)ribose were synthesized a nd tested as inhibitors of the methylthioribose kinase-containing path ogen, Klebsiella pneumoniae. All of the compounds exhibit good activit y against the organism. 5-(4-Iodophenylthio)ribose demonstrated the mo st potent inhibitory effects with a 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50 ) value of similar to 2.5 picomolar (0.0009 ng/ml).
