Abstract
Avermectin B-1-8,9-oxide (2) is an avermectin analog which combines ex cellent bioactivity with increased photostability. Nucleophilic openin g of the epoxide of 2 leads to derivatives which are substantially les s bioactive. X-ray analysis of one of these derivatives has allowed as signment of the epoxide stereochemistry.
