The description of two additional cases of coronary artery disease in
haemophiliacs is reported. Both patients are affected by mild haemophi
lia A. The first one was not aware of his coagulation disorder and the
refore he had never been treated with FVIII concentrates, despite the
occurrence of severe and recurrent articular and gastric bleeding epis
odes. He underwent cardiac catheterization that gave evidence of exten
sive coronary atherosclerosis. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angi
oplasty (PTCA) was then performed. The second patient had an inferior
myocardial infarction. Influence of cardiovascular risk factors in hae
mophiliacs and the possible role of thrombosis in the pathogenesis of
atherosclerosis are discussed.
