M. Gupta et Jp. Shukla, DIELECTRIC AND CONDUCTIVITY STUDIES OF BENZYL CYANIDE IN POLYMER MATRICES, Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Physics, 31(11), 1993, pp. 786-789
Dielectric and conductivity properties of benzyl cyanide in polymer ma
trix have been studied at varying temperatures in a frequency range of
200 to 10(5) Hz. Enthalpies of activation for higher and lower temper
ature range have been found to be 2.0 kJ mol-1 and 39.2 kJ mol-1 respe
ctively. Low value of enthalpy has been estimated due to the rotation
of -CH2CN group attached to the benzene ring whereas enthalpy of 39.2
kJ mol-1 indicated molecular process. AC Conductivity being associated
with dielectric dispersion has also been evaluated at various frequen
cies and temperatures. A correlation of conductivity (sigma) with the
frequency has been made. An estimate of activation energy for conducti
vity has been studied.
