T. Kirihara et al., LOSSLESS AND LOW-CROSSTALK CHARACTERISTICS IN AN INP-BASED 2X2 OPTICAL SWITCH, IEEE photonics technology letters, 5(9), 1993, pp. 1059-1061
A lossless and low-crosstalk optical switch is most desirable for larg
e-scale photonic networks. To realize such a switch, a traveling-wave
amplifier is integrated into the slip waveguide of a carrier-injection
type optical single-slip structure (S3) switch. We demonstrate fiber-
to-fiber lossless and low-crosstalk (40 dB ON/OFF ratio) characteristi
cs of two of four elements in a 2 x 2 crossbar optical switch that int
egrates four amplifiers and eight Y-branch optical switches.
