A detailed characterization of the Stark components of the I-4(9/2) an
d I-4(11/2) manifolds have been performed using the room-temperature f
luorescence spectra for the F-4(3/2)-->I-4(9/2) and F-4(3/2)-->I-4(11/
2) transitions of Nd3+ in strontium fluorovanadate, Sr-5(VO4)(3)F, cry
stals. The emission cross sections of the lower-lying intermanifold tr
ansitions as well as the major inter-Stark transitions, R(1)-->X(1)(88
6.2 nm), R(1)-->X(5)(942.8 nm), and R(1)-->Y-1(1065.2 nm) of Nd3+:Sr-5
(VO4)(3)F, have been also determined and compared with those of Nd3+:Y
AG.
