Abstract
This article explores some of the implications of the relationships am ong ethos, world view, and archaeological practice by presenting a per spective on the dominant world view and ethos of contemporary American archaeology. The focus of the discussion is on how the archaeologists ' world view enhances or obscures archaeological practice in various c ontexts. The authors propose an ethos and an ethic that reflects their view of the context of contemporary archaeological practice.
