Ap. Nazarov et Ta. Yurasova, ANODIC-DISSOLUTION AND AUTODISSOLUTION OF MAGNESIUM IN THE PRESENCE OF DEPASSIVATOR IONS, Protection of metals, 29(3), 1993, pp. 304-312
The mechanisms of the anodic dissolution and autodissolution of Mg und
er conditions of anodic activation of the surface and the formation of
a hydride phase of the metal are examined It was shown that autodisso
lution of metal is due to the participation of water in the anodic pro
cess, forming the hydroxonium ion on the active surface of the electro
de. Subsequent reduction of the hydroxonium ion leads to hydride forma
tion and autodissolution of the metal. The participation of anions of
the electrolyte in the anodic process decreases the contribution of th
e reaction involving water and inhibits the autodissolution of Mg.
