On. Markova et al., DETERMINATION OF THE TENDENCY OF STEEL 12KH18N10T PIPE SPECIMENS TO INTERCRYSTALLINE CORROSION, Protection of metals, 29(3), 1993, pp. 328-332
The tendency of steel 12Kh18N10T pipe specimens to intercrystalline co
rrosion (ICC) by the accelerated electrochemical method in a solution
of 10% H2SO4 + 0.025 g/liter of KCNS [1] and in accordance with the AM
U method (GOST 6032-89) is investigated It is demonstrated that the gr
inding off of the etched surface layer, which is formed during the sco
uring of steel under plant conditions, is required to establish relati
onships between these methods The tendency to ICC is observed primaril
y on the internal surface of the pipe specimens. Using supplementary m
ethods (metallographic monitoring and artificial carbonizing), it is d
emonstrated that the tendency to ICC under plant conditions is caused
by carbonization of the surface when graphite lubrication is not compl
etely cleaned from the surface.
