P. Vandamme et al., DISCRIMINATION OF EPIDEMIC AND SPORADIC ISOLATES OF ARCOBACTER-BUTZLERI BY POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION-MEDIATED DNA-FINGERPRINTING, Journal of clinical microbiology, 31(12), 1993, pp. 3317-3319
DNA polymorphisms of Arcobacter butzleri outbreak-related strains and
Arcobacter reference strains were determined by use of the polymerase
chain reaction with primers aimed at repetitive sequences. The epidemi
ological relationship among 14 outbreak-related strains was substantia
ted, as they showed virtually no genomic variations. Their DNA amplifi
cation patterns were, however, clearly different from those of all Arc
obacter reference strains studied; each reference strain was character
ized by a unique DNA fingerprint.
