Abstract
HIV-1 Nef is clearly essential for efficient viral replication in vivo , but it has been difficult to determine why. Recent evidence that Nef specifically activates a PAK-dependent signaling cascade may be the f irst step in defining the mechanism of action of this enigmatic viral protein.
