U. Schnell et al., EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF NO(X) FORMATION AND ITS BASIC INTERDEPENDENCIES ON PULVERIZED COAL FLAME CHARACTERISTICS, Combustion science and technology, 93(1-6), 1993, pp. 91-109
The formation of nitrogen oxide in pulverized coal combustion is analy
sed by experiments in a 500 kW test rig and by numerical predictions.
This study extracts some of the dozens of parameters that were investi
gated during the trials. It turned out that the huge number of process
variables that have an impact on NO(x) formation can be reduced to a
smaller figure by an appropriate data analysis. Major parameters prese
nted in this contribution are the fineness of the coal dust and the am
ount of swirl. Special emphasis is put on the fact that the level of N
O(x) concentration must necessarily be monitored together with the deg
ree of burnout of the coal dust.
