PREPARATION AND STRUCTURE OF (MU-PHENANTHRENE)BIS(TRICARBONYLCHROMIUM) AND (MU-PYRENE)BIS(TRICARBONYLCHROMIUM)

The preparations of the bis(tricarbonylchromium) complexes of phenanth rene and pyrene are reported. These materials were characterized by sp ectroscopic means, including both their solution and solid CP/MAS NMR spectra. The X-ray crystal structure showed both complexes to have the anticipated anti orientation of the tricarbonylchromium moieties. In the phenanthrene complex, the rotomer conformations for the two tricar bonylchromium groups are different, whereas the pyrene complex has a c enter of inversion.
