Abstract
A clinical trial was conducted on 34 patients whose absolute number of peripheral blood CD4+ T cells was below normal, and who were given be statin orally for a period of 3 weeks. Bestatin increased the absolute number of CD4+ T cells only in patients whose CD8+ T cells were also reduced. It would appear that normal numbers of CD8+ T cells controlle d attempts by the organism to alter the T4/T8 ratio.
