Abstract
We discuss a procedure which gives explicit equations for the coexiste nce curve for mean field theories. The procedure is based on the obser vation that the Maxwell construction generates an odd-symmetric functi on. The simplest application is to the Ising model of a lattice gas. W e obtain explicit equations for the vapor pressure curve and coexisten ce line for the van der Waals and Redlich-Kwong reduced equation of st ate.
