Abstract
Galtonia 'Moonbeam' is shown to be a tetraploid. Details of the chromo some number and karyotype are presented in comparison with those of Ga ltonia candicans (Baker) Decne. The significance of increased ploidy l evel is discussed and contrasted with increased ploidy levels reported in other bulbous ornamental plants.
